IPL 2023 Auction: Sam Curran is one of the brightest players in modern-day T20 cricket. He has been England’s most formidable death-over bowler since last year. Curran led England’s bowling attack in the T20 World Cup and demonstrated modern-day death over bowling mastery.
The medium pacer from England has shown great prominence with the ball in hand, bowling fiery toe breakers and slower balls into the pitch. Curran, with his accurate line and length, has taken the most wickets in the T20 World Cup and took his team to victory with a tricky spell in the finals.
With the IPL being the platform for massive hitters, Sam Curran, with his recent form, can be an asset for any team looking for a death-over specialist.
Curran can be an important buy for many teams that can feature an overseas all-rounder in their team, with many great finishers gearing up to make it big in the cup.
3. Rajasthan Royals
The Royals have been great with their batting in last year’s IPL, but on the other hand, they have struggled to find a 5th bowling option, and even their best bowlers have been hit for runs in the death.
The Royals’ attack is led by Kiwi left-armer Trent Boult, who is well supported by Prasidh Krishna and the duo of the two Indian spinners. All of them have done everything correctly, from taking wickets in the powerplay to being economical in the middle overs, but something that they have lacked is a death bowling option, and Curran suits their demand.
With Buttler, Hetmyer, and Boulton likely being the 3 overseas choices for the Royals, they can bring in Sam Curran to fill in the void for a proper 5th bowler as a death-over specialist.
2. Gujarat Titans
Though the Titans will enter this year’s IPL 2023 as defending champions, they will still be looking to make some changes in their team to get similar results in this edition too. They let go of a few players earlier this season, including New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson and Afghan goalkeeper Gurbaz.
GT would be looking forward to picking a few talented and skilled players in the 2022 mini-auction after recently increasing their purse by 5 crores and releasing quite a few players. With not many overseas inclusions or possibilities in their squad, the Titans can include Sam Curran as the best replacement for Lockie Ferguson. The Englishman is great at the plate and can add more batting strength to the GT lower order alongside Tewatia and Rashid.
1. Delhi Capitals
The capitals started their season by releasing their big bid from last year’s auction. Shardul Thakur was traded to KKR to increase their purse size. Now with more bucks in their tank, the Capitals can look forward to picking an in-form overseas all-rounder to replace Shardul.
With England being this year’s world T20 champions and the anchor of this win featuring in the mini-auction, who else can be a better buy than Sam Curran, one who can improve their death bowling amidst the non-economical Delhi bowlers, including Nortje and their highest wicket-taker, Kuldeep Yadav. Sam Curran can also bat and score quick runs down the order, just the role Shardul played in their squad.
