IPL 2023: In IPL 2023 Match No. 8, which was played in Guwahati on Wednesday (April 5),star Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal of the Rajasthan Royals took one wicket against the Punjab Kings and, by dismissing PBKS wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma, surpassed legendary Sri Lankan and Mumbai Indians spinner Lasith Malinga’s total of 170 IPL wickets.
On Wednesday, Yuzvendra Chahal, the great spinner for the Rajasthan Royals,struggled against the Punjab Kings in IPL 2023 Match No. 8, which was held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
The 32-year-old spinner, who concluded last year’s cash-rich league as the top wicket-taker, began this year’s edition by taking four wickets for 17 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match.
However, he gave up 50 runs in his four-over period against Shikhar Dhawan’s team. He was cleaned up by the PBKS hitters, as he only managed to capture one wicket.Chahal took four wickets in RR’s opening game of the 2023 season,making him the first Indian bowler to reach 300 wickets in T20 cricket.
Nonetheless, that single victory was enough for him to surpass Lasith Malinga’s IPL record.The former Mumbai Indians pacer claimed a total of 170 wickets in 122 IPL games while a member of MI. With dismissing Punjab’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma on Wednesday.
Chahal passed Malinga and moved up to No.2 on the list of all-time IPL wicket-takers. With 171 wickets under his belt after 133 games, the Indian spinner is only second all-time behind the legendary West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. 183 wickets were taken by the 39-year-old Bravo in 161 games while playing for the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
In addition, he surpassed Amit Mishra’s previous record for the most wickets taken by an Indian in the IPL .In 154 games this season, the 40-year-old Mishra, who is a member of the Lucknow Super Giants lineup, struck out 166 hitters.
In the upcoming games, he will also have the opportunity to surpass Malinga’s total and move up the rankings.
