IPL 2025 in England

IPL 2025 in England : The possibility of IPL 2025 being held in England is being discussed from 9th May 2025. After BCCI suspended the remaining 16 matches of the Indian Premier League, the England and Wales Cricket Board offered BCCI the option to host the tournament in England.

BCCI has now postponed the tournament for a week because the tension between India and Pakistan is increasing a lot. Talking about Operation Sindoor, in this article, we have shared all the information related to this offer with you and have given complete details about it, so let’s start this article.

Background of the Suspension and Offer

The idea of hosting IPL 2025 in England came after BCCI’s suspension decision on 9th May, following the Punjab and Delhi match in Dharamsala, which was stopped midway on 8th May due to a suspected Pakistan drone attack.

India’s Operation Sindoor attacked terror camps in Pakistan and PoK on 7th May, and this was a response to the Pahalgam attack on 22nd April. This match was still close to the tournament.

There were 12 league games and four playoff games left. Giving priority to safety, BCCI has paused the season to arrange chartered flights for players and foreign staff.

England Cricket Board’s Offer

IPL 2025 in England – England Cricket Board said that they are ready to help BCCI from their side. Former England captain Michael Wagon suggested that England’s venues can host IPL matches.

Before India’s five-Test series, which is going to start on 20th June 2025, the remaining matches can take place. The second option is that IPL can be hosted there during the Asia window in September, which may get cancelled.

Challenges in Hosting IPL in England

Hosting IPL 2025 in England is going to be very difficult. England’s domestic cricket and international summer, which includes the South Africa series in September, limits venue availability.

Ten English IPL players like Jos Buttler are going back home, and this will complicate the logistics. BCCI would prefer to resume the tournament in India itself if the environment becomes safe, or there is a possibility of shifting it to South Africa or Dubai.

The offer from the England Cricket Board is quite good, and it needs a quick agreement.
