IPL 2023: IPL has since its very first edition, been the perfect play for a batsman. With the death overs being the most important phase of a T20 batting inning, these end overs’ power hitters have turned out to be the real match-winners for their respective franchises. Providing clinical victories in impossible situations has been the role of this set of players coming towards the end of the inning.
Let’s see this year’s (IPL 2023’s) top 5 prospects for those who make the T20 format more entertaining than any other format, i.e., the finishers.
5. Tim David
The big Australian-born cricketer who now features for Team Australia, previously played international cricket for Singapore and earned glory playing for Singapore before the world looked at him as a prospect for a great finisher in making. David, playing for Australia in 2022, did not score much with only 182 runs in 11 matches but scored with an attacking strike rate of 160+.
David earned the status of a finisher in T20s playing across different T20 leagues around the world, he has 3158 runs in 141 T20 matches at a strike rate of 163. Though his IPL debut season was not very convincing as he managed 187 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate above 210. David is expected to explode in IPL 2023.
4. Rovman Powell
The player is from the Caribbean Ring of Fire, as Powell is from the island nation that produced the biggest power hitters in world cricket and is responsible for the worldwide spread out and expansion of T20 cricket. Powell is a powerhouse and a current sensation in world T20 cricket. Playing for the Capitals in the IPL Powell showed his immense 6-hitting skills in IPL 2022 and can be another standout performer even in IPL 2023.
3. Liam Livingstone
The Englishman is a 6-hitting machine and has been prolific playing for England in limited-overs cricket. Livingstone has proved to be an all-rounder by showing overall excellence both with the bat and the bowl. Livingstone even left his mark on IPL in the 2022 season scoring 400+ runs with huge sixes all around the park. Livingstone scored a massive 100 in T20i, with 423 T20i runs in 29 matches at a strike rate of almost 150. He is also brilliant in the IPL, scoring 549 runs in 23 matches at a strike rate of 167. We expect the same from him in IPL 2023.
2. Shimron Hetmyer
Another eminent player from the island nation of the West Indies. Hetmyer is flexible to play both as a middle-order batter and as a finisher. Hetmyer has done justice to his role as a finisher by playing quite a few sensational knocks for the Rajasthan Royals.
The West Indies’ big hitter is in no way different from the other players of his nation who are known for smashing sixes. Hetmyer is also one of a kind, as he has also shown equivalent prominence in finishing the innings while batting down the order. The Royals would hope to have him in the same way as last year in 2022, in IPL 2023 as well.
1. David Miller
The protea batter has been a consistent part of T20 franchises for almost a decade now, he was even named Killer Miller due to his special batting antics. The dangerous batsman has also been in sublime form since the last year of 2022. Miller smashed some amazing innings playing for the Gujarat Titans in 2022, contributing massively to GT’s win in the 15th edition of the IPL. David Miller will be aspiring to continue his amazing form in the forthcoming in IPL 2023.
