IPL 2023, MI Playoffs Scenario: In an intense match on Tuesday, May 16, Mumbai Indians lost the golden opportunity to secure a place in the IPL 2023 playoffs. Despite their status as five times champions, Mumbai Indians lost the match against Lucknow SuperGiants.

A victory over Lucknow SuperGiants would have taken Mumbai Indians to second place in the points table. However, their loss resulted in Mumbai slipping to the fourth position and Lucknow jumped to the third position.

MI’s Recent match against LSG:

After winning the toss, MI invited LSG to bat first. Jason Behrendorff made an impact by taking the wickets of Deepak Hooda and Prerak Mankad in early overs. Piyush Chawla dismissed Quinton de Kock but Marcus Stioinis and Krunal Pandya built an 82-run partnership, with Stnoinis scoring 87 and Krunal got retired hurt at 49.

Chasing 177, Mumbai Indians had a better start with 90 run partnership between Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. However, they lost momentum after the departure of both openers and Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket. Tim David’s Quick 32 runs in 19 balls led MI close to the victory.

In the end, a superb final over from Mohsin Khan, who conceded only five runs and sealed the win for his team hence MI slips to the fourth position in the points table.

Mumbai Indians upcoming match:

Mumbai Indian’s next match will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians Qualification Scenario:

1. Beat SRH and hope RCB and PBKS lose their next matches.

If this situation, Mumbai Indians will have 16 points and they will directly qualify for the playoffs, and then they will not have to rely on Net Run Rate.

2. Win against SRH and have a good NRR

If MI wins against SRH with the good margin and make their Net Run Rate better than other teams, then they will not rely on the win or loss of RCB and PBKS.

How Mumbai Indians can make into the Top Two:

If LSG and CSK lose their next matches and Mumbai Indians win against SRH with a big margin then they will have a better Run Rate in despite whether RCB and PBKS win their next game or not, MI need to have a better Net Run Rate to make their position in the top two.
