India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, has recently been made the captain of the Men in Blue after India’s T20 World Cup-winning skipper Rohit Sharma stepped down from the role and also retired from the shortest format of the game.
Despite being one of India’s best players, in the shortest format of the game, and also being one of the major contributors in India’s T20 World Cup success both with the bat and the historic catch that turned the fortunes for India, however, despite all his excellence, he is not an all-format cricketer for India.
Agarkar named him the skipper of the T20I side, but on the same day, he also stated that SKY was not on their list of ODI players for the time being. Even Surya, who has previously been given chances with the team in ODIs, even the World Cup underperformed, and as a result of it, has been dropped.
The MI-based batter has also represented India in a single match in the longest format of the game, scoring just 8 runs. Recently, with not any T20I games for India until the Bangladesh series much later, Yadav is reportedly ready for a busy domestic season, as he has shown aspirations to feature for India across all formats.

The 33-year-old Mumbai-based cricketer has reported to his state side, Mumbai, that he will make himself available for the Buchi Babu tournament to be played towards the end of this month, with the first game being against J&K. The cricketer also requested they not make changes to the captaincy role, as he is ready to play under Sarfaraz Khan.
Suryakumar’s last appearance in first-class cricket was almost a year back, the batter appeared for Mumbai in July 2023. Suryakumar likely scored 5628 runs for the Mumbai side, in his career playing 82 matches while he has also scored at a valuable average of 43.62 and with 14 tons he is worth to feature at the longest format.
SKY might also be seen making a comeback for India in other formats, as some have also claimed him to be a better cricketer in the middle order for India than the other players who are currently a part of the India squad.
