The Khar Gymkhana, one of the most recognised and oldest clubs in India, has cancelled the membership of Indian women’s cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues.

The Gymkhana officials have reported that the action was taken against the cricketer based on the objection of some of the members over her father’s usage of the club premises for ‘ religious activity’. Some claims have been made over the events organised being to convert the vulnerable.

The annual general body meeting, which was held on Sunday, decided to end her membership with the club after messages and phone calls made to Jemimah as well as her father, Ivan, went unanswered and unresponded for their opinion on the issue.

The Club President Vivek Devnani reported that the “honorary three-year membership given to Ms. Jemimah Rodrigues was revoked pursuant to a resolution passed by the members who attended the general meeting held on October 20, 2024.”

Jemimah Rodrigues has emerged as one of the finest Indian Women cricketers of the decade, as she is young and dynamic at scoring runs in any format.

The 23-year-old Indian cricketer has also been an often featuring name across tournaments like the WBBL, The Women’s Hundred as well as the CPL, which are global Women’s T20 leagues.

The cricketer was last seen playing with the Indian team in the recently concluded Women’s T20 World Cup in UAE, which saw India’s group stage exit after losing a set of matches to New Zealand and Australia. She has next been picked for the Indian side that will tour Australia for the upcoming ODI series, as Harmanpreet Kaur remains the skipper for the Indian side.
