Indian Cricket Team Ranked Number 1 in T20Is:
The men in blue have retained their number 1 spot in the latest released rankings in the T20I category. Not only have they retained the ranking but have also gone two points further clear of the second-placed England team.
This is because India is have a dream run since 2020. Since 2020, they had a mediocre Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2021 but apart from that, they have been too good. They managed to qualify for the semi-finals in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 which was held in Australia. Sadly, it was England who battered them out of the competition. But in the past 15 series that they have played in the bilateral nature, they have managed to win 13, draw 1, and lost just 1. The one which they lost was against Sri Lanka in 2021.
A total of 84 Teams Are Ranked and Registered:
The ICC should take pride in the fact that 84 teams are now ranked in the rank list. This shows that the sport of cricket is growing very fast. The top 5 teams include India, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa. Australia, the champions of 2021 is not in the top 5 and it is one of the points of concern for the island nation.
The biggest leaps have been taken by the USA and Hong Kong. Each of them has jumped 3 places in the points table. Hong Kong has entered the top 20 of T20I cricket for the first time. The USA is ranked 22nd. PNG and Oman on the other hand lost in the latest rankings and had to move down two places each.
Indian Cricket Team and the Impact of the IPL:
The Indian cricket team needs to be grateful for the TATA IPL. This tournament has helped the Men in Blue develop this format across the nation. Although, the Indian cricket team hasn’t won any ICC T20 World Cups post the formation of the IPL which is a distinct point to ponder, but there are many great players that this league has given. It is a league where talent meets opportunity. Not only Indian but many young foreign players have earned the “Champion” status via the TATA IPL.
