India vs Australia in the semi-final of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is a much-awaited encounter and will almost be a rematch between the two limited-over giants after their clash in the ICC World Cup final back in 2023.
India won a stunning match against New Zealand to emerge as the group leaders and hence square off with the mighty Aussies in the semis. For India, Varun Chakravarthy remains a top inclusion in the 11, with him likely being a contender in the semi-final playing 11 as well.
However, on the other hand, the Aussies suffered a huge blow since their opening batsman, Matthew Short, was ruled out of the semi-final clash against India. This was a result of Short being seen limping during his batting innings against Afghanistan.
The lanky opening batter is also a part-time spinner who could come in handy to the Aussies under the spin-friendly track of Dubai.
Australian U-19 star from 2023, Cooper Connolly, has replaced Short in the 11. Connolly earlier starred for Australia in the series against England and the home series against Pakistan. He was also seen playing a good hand for Perth Scorchers in the BBL 2024/25.
India vs Australia: Matt Short’s goodbye post on Instagram

Australian opener Matt Short had a fairly decent impact for Australia in the ongoing Champions Trophy since he marked a crucial inning in the highest-ever Champions Trophy chase against England in the opening match of their campaign.
Short could also come in handy for Aussies with the ball; however, he faced discomfort with a limping leg during his batting innings against Afghanistan and was declared unfit post-scans.
Though Australia’s campaign extended to the semis, Matt Short’s 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign ended, and while departing from Pakistan, he made a cryptic post on his Instagram handle.
In his post, he bid adieu to Pakistan, confirming his injury while also wishing luck to the Aussie boys in the Champions Trophy. He also shared his return to the PSL with Islamabad United after some amount of rehab from the injury.
