The main team that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies will travel to India, while the selection committee has picked up a second-string side to feature in the IND vs ZIM T20I series. Shubman Gill will be leading the team, which has a number of debutants.

All those players who did well in the IPL 2024 have been rewarded with a place. Some exciting players like Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, Harshit Rana, and Tushar Deshpande will have their maiden T20I call. India have arranged the IND vs ZIM series to give international exposure to these youngsters. But this series will be important in many contexts. In this article, we will talk about the three big questions India need to solve in this IND vs ZIM series.

IND vs ZIM: Three Areas India need to Address in the upcoming Zimbabwe T20I Series

1. Opening Combination

India went with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit has been opening for the team for a long time now, and he is retired. So India need someone who can replace him at the top. The squad has Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Sai Sudharsan (for the first two T20Is), Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Yashasvi Jaiswal (for the last three T20Is) to choose from. India need to find a suitable opening combination for the next T20 World Cup, which will take place in India in 2026.

2. No. 3 Batter

India now don’t have the luxury of Virat Kohli, who has scored immense runs at No. 3 and won India countless matches. With a new captain taking the charge, we might see a batter at No. 3. Rishabh Pant is not part of the squad, and Samson is not available for the first two matches. Hence, the IND vs ZIM series will help India find options for an ideal No. 3 batter who can control the phase of the game and take the innings together.

3. A suitable middle order

With no Rohit and Virat at the top, India need a good middle order. Because these two used to do the bulk of the scoring for India. They will not be available anymore; it will be a big test for the rest of the batters. Hence, India need to find options in the middle order and a few finishers as well. Some of these youngsters will play in the T20 World Cup 2024 for India, and this will be a good opportunity for them. India also need someone who can replace Ravindra Jadeja.
