IND vs IRE: Top-order Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah showed flashes of brilliance in his comeback outing against Ireland at Malahide after returning from a back injury.

Bumrah last played for India in a bilateral T20I series against Australia at home over a year ago. With his participation in the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia ruled out due to a back ailment, the bowler will have surgery and begin a lengthy recovery procedure.

On his comeback, Bumrah won the toss and chose to field a youthful Indian team against Ireland in Malahide. And he got off to a flying start with a superb first over.

After hitting his first ball for a four, Bumrah accelerated the second ball, taking an inside edge off Andy Balbirnie’s bat that would knock down the stumps. The over would get even better as he picked up the wicket of Lorcan Tucker, who failed to hit the ramp shot. Apart from the two wickets, Bumrah would also bowl the yorker on the fourth ball of the over.

In the 16th over, Bumrah again returned to the attack and gave away 13 runs. His last over would be the 19th, where he conceded only 1 run. He finished with figures of 2/24, which was a huge positive for the Indian team as their pacer regained some much-needed fitness for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in October and November.

Other bowlers also did well and India restricted Ireland to 139/7. At one stage, the situation looked hopeless for the hosts, but fine innings from Curtis Camper (39) and Barry McCarthy (51*) saw them post a competitive total.

In exchange, India will get off to a strong start, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad looking confident. But Ireland would respond, with Craig Young dismissing Jaiswal and Tilak Verma in consecutive balls.

It started raining around 6.5 overs, India were 47/2, two runs ahead of the DLS par score. He would not relent, as India sealed the victory and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
