IND vs AUS: Indian coach Gautam Gambhir, under whom India has underperformed in the longest format of the game. Since Gambhir took charge, India has excelled across T20 formats; however, the team blundered in the ODI series against Sri Lanka while they have repeatedly faltered in red-ball cricket.
India, under Gambhir’s reign, first suffered a clean sweep in a home test series against New Zealand. After this huge blow, India needed a desperate fightback in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to keep their hopes alive in the race for the WTC final.
After the initial domination of the Indians at Perth, the Men in Blue seemed to fall back in the remaining tests. Repeating the same mistakes, like poking at wider deliveries by Kohli, irrational and irresponsible shots from Rishabh Pant, and a poor defensive framework, have seemingly upset not only the ICT fans but also the national coach.
Gambhir, in a press conference, recently spoke with disgust in his tone, condemning the reckless attitude of the Indian players. He said the Indian players are doing things of their own in the name of natural games, which is not helping the team at all.
Gambhir opened up on Pujara and said, ‘I wanted him to know the selectors snubbed him.’
Gautam Gambhir has finally decided to make a statement about senior players like Cheteshwar Pujara. Pujara is definitely aged as of now but has some impressive experiences to impart to the Indian team.
Pujara was seen playing in the English County as well as the Ranji Trophy, where he stunned all with his repeated double hundreds and befitting batting style. His defensive work rate had taken a toll on the Australian bowlers in the last BGT and had tired them enough to make mistakes, admitted humbly by Aussie skipper Pat Cummins.
Gambhir said that he wanted Cheteshwar Pujara in the side, but it was the call from the selectors to leave him out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad.
