World Cup Final 2023: The finalists for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 have been confirmed, with India taking on Australia in the showpiece match in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Tournament hosts India are the only team to remain unbeaten in a World Cup final, winning all ten of their matches for the first time since their victory on home soil in 2011. They won nine out of nine matches in the league stage before defeating New Zealand in Mumbai in the semi-finals.

And Rohit Sharma’s team will face Australia in the final after defeating South Africa in a tense second semi-final at the Eden Gardens on Thursday.

After 47 matches and six weeks of action, the fate of the 2023 Cricket World Cup title will be revealed with 100-over action at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which is expected to draw a record crowd at the 130,000-capacity ground.

Host India has won the Men’s Cricket World Cup twice before in its history, first in the UK in 1983 and most recently on home soil in 2011. Australia is the most successful nation in the tournament’s history, having won five titles, most recently in 2015.

The Australian team has won each of its last four matches in the Cricket World Cup final, and are confident heading into Sunday’s clash after defeating South Africa in the semi-final stage.

It was a six-wicket win for India when these teams met in the league stage of the tournament, which was both teams’ first game of the competition. An excellent bowling performance led by a three-pronged spin attack saw India bowl out Australia for 199 runs.

And even a disastrous start that saw Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer all out for ducks inside the first two overs was not enough to stop India from getting off to a winning start.

Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97*) mastered the chase, rebuilding well and making consistent submissions as India reached their target with 8.4 overs to spare.

India won all nine of its matches in the group stage to finish on top with a maximum of 18 points. India’s net run rate of 2.570 was the best in the group stage.

In the semi-final against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma got off to a blazing start with the bat, partnering fellow opener Shubman Gill before Virat Kohli completed his 50th ODI century, going past Sachin Tendulkar.

New Zealand showed some respite with the help of Daryl Mitchell’s century after scoring a huge score of 397 runs but missed out by only 70 runs.

Team Australia’s Journey in ICC Men’s World Cup 2023

Australia bounced back from losses to India and South Africa in their opening matches and finished last on the table, before winning the remaining seven matches and qualifying with 14 points.

In the rematch with South Africa in the semi-finals, Pat Cummins’s side was a bit shaky, although the Australians started strongly, restricting South Africa to 24/4.

David Miller’s century gave the Proteas hope, although it was Cummins and Mitchell Starc who hoisted their bats in victory as they preserved a tense three-wicket win.
