The ICC Men ODI team of the year for 2024 has been announced by the ICC, as it includes players from every cricketing nation who have given their best in the format throughout an exciting year of their cricket careers.

2024 though was not among the very active years for ODI cricket, as major cricketing giants have mostly focused on T20 cricket in the beginning 6 months of the year with the T20 World Cup in sight, while the later months were largely occupied by the packed WTC schedule.

India, among the active cricket-playing nations, played only 3 ODI matches in 2024, which resulted in their exclusion from the ICC 50-over team, a team that the Indians dominated over the years.

Not only India, but also teams like Australia, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, and South Africa have not made the ODI 11 announced by the ICC, the major cause of which is the fewer number of matches played by these nations in the format.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan were among the two major nations to have featured in multiple ODI games, though despite their strong performance, Sri Lanka could not make their way into the Champions Trophy 2025 final team draft.

Likely the Afghanistan team, who are playing their first ever Champions Trophy in the history of the competition, have outshone many greats of the game, including the Proteas, who lost a series to them. A trio of a batter, all-rounder, and bowler from the Afghan side made their way into the ICC ODI 11.
