ICC Award: The nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for November 2023 have been announced.: The two best players of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 winning team made themselves worthy of the Player of the Month award with their experienced performances.
On the other hand, the best-experienced bowler of the runner-up team, Indian fast bowling with his waving balls has made it to the shortlist for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Award in 2023 of November month.
ICC Award: Travis Head Australian batsman
After a lengthy injury hiatus, Australia’s batting wonder Travis Head made a spectacular century against New Zealand at the end of October to mark his return to the starting lineup. He carried on his good form into November.
He amassed 220 runs at an astounding average of 44 in five One-Day Internationals in November, including a half-century and a century. Especially, he was outstanding in the semi-finals and final of the Cricket World Cup, winning Player of the Match and being a key part of Australia’s sixth title.
In the semi-finals, he also made an impact with the ball, derailing South Africa’s innings by taking two crucial wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen. This helped restrict the Proteas to a modest score, which was overhauled in a tense chase, yet Head still played a brilliant innings of 62 off 48.
In the final against India, he scored a brilliant 137 runs in 120 balls to help Australia win the match by six wickets. Australia’s innings was faltering at one point and was reduced to 47/3 while chasing the target of 241 runs. However, Head maintained his composure and played the innings in the middle overs. His special innings included 15 fours and four sixes.
Apart from his ODI runs, the batsman scored 35 runs from 18 balls in Australia’s five-wicket win over India in the third T20I of the recently concluded five-match series, which India won 4-1.
ICC Award: Glenn Maxwell Australian all-rounder
Glenn Maxwell scored 204 runs at an average of 204 with a strike rate of 152.23 in his three ODIs last month, while also taking two wickets. In the two T20Is in the series against India, he scored 116 runs at an impressive strike rate of 207.14.
Maxwell missed Australia’s Cricket World Cup match against England at the beginning of the month due to a golfing mishap, but he made a spectacular comeback against Afghanistan.
He completed the score of 1/55 by dismissing Rahmat Shah with the ball. However, Afghanistan’s total of 291/5 looked far out of reach after Australia slipped from 43/1 to 91/7.
Maxwell then took charge and, despite suffering from severe cramps, scored a brilliant 201 from 128 – one of the greatest innings in ODIs. In the record innings, he smacked ten sixes and twenty-one fours.
His double century was the second fastest double century in history and the first by an Australian in men’s ODIs. A double century was achieved while pursuing the aim for the first time. Furthermore, it was the best result achieved by a player ranked No. 6 or lower.
Later, he played in the T20I series against India, where his spectacular century in Guwahati helped Australia win the third T20I match. His innings of 104* runs came off just 48 balls and included eight fours and eight sixes. This helped India chase 223 runs.
ICC Award: Mohammed Shami Indian fast bowler
In November, Mohammed Shami carried on with his outstanding World Cup performance. He took 15 wickets at an economy rate of 5.68 and an average of 12.06. He became the leading wicket-taker overall in the 2023 Cricket World Cup after taking 24 wickets in just seven innings.
Among his month-long highlights was his incredible 5/18 performance at the Wankhede against Sri Lanka. When Shami concluded the first powerplay, Sri Lanka was already under tremendous pressure to reach the target of 358, and his appearance sealed the deal. In his five overs, he ran through their middle and lower order.
At Eden Gardens, a disciplined 2/18 contributed to South Africa’s crushing defeat. The fast bowler, though, stole the show against New Zealand in the semi-final.
Shami’s efforts with the new ball dealt the Black Caps an early blow, as they scored 397 runs in the first innings. But Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell held their ground and kept their team in the game.
India’s victory was secured when Shami struck five more times after the other bowlers were unable to provide an answer. For 57 runs, he claimed 7 wickets, the highest return for an Indian bowler in One-Day Internationals.
