ICC Award: ICC Announced Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month for December 2023: In the last year, the players have forced the ICC to give awards one by one due to their performance in the matches of all formats in the cricket world. In the first month of 2024, awards have been announced for male and female players for the unique performance by the players in the last year.
Let us tell you in detail about those talented players. The Australian captain enjoyed a blockbuster 2023 by winning the ICC World Test Championship, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and retaining the Ashes. It is almost fitting that Cummins ended the year by winning the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2023.
He defeated Taijul Islam of Bangladesh and Glenn Phillips of New Zealand to receive the monthly award for the first time in his career. As a result, the Australian stronghold on Men’s Player of the Month continues, with Travis Head emerging victorious in November.
In the first two matches of the three-match Test series against Pakistan at home, Cummins led by example with the ball. He started well and contributed to Australia’s victory by taking three wickets in the opening match.
But it was in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) where Cummins exposed himself.
Defending 317 runs in the final innings, Pakistan were heading towards victory at 110/2 when Cummins brought himself back to life and dismissed his opposite number Shan Masood for 60.
From there, Australia took command of the game and Cummins shut down any resistance from Pakistan’s batsmen and bowled them out for 237.
Against a fired-up Pakistan, Cummins led Australia’s dominance by taking five wickets in each innings (5/48 and 5/49) to reach 250 Test wickets. His Player of the Match winning performance secured the series for Australia which ultimately resulted in him being crowned No. 1 in Tests.
