Cricket Tournament 2022: Who Can Replace In ODI As A Good Option After Rishabh Pant Injury: Rishabh Pant has had a tough year on the field in the current season (2022) of the cricket tournament. Unfortunately, the road accident with Pant on December 30, 2022, has made it even worse.
Rishabh Pant was embroiled in a major controversy during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match between the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. In the last over of the game, Rajasthan left-arm pacer Obed McCoy bowled a high full-toss to Rovman Powell.
The Delhi Capitals team said that it was a clear no-ball on the basis of height. However, the on-field umpires called it a fair ball. Pant, sitting in the DC dugout, was very excited and signaled to Powell and Kuldeep Yadav (non-striker) to come out. Assistant coach Praveen Amre also went to the field of play but was asked to leave by the umpires.
Subsequently, Rishabh Pant and coach Amre were fined full match fees for breaching IPL rules. He also reacted angrily to the acquittal of all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who was later expelled from a match along with Paise, but was fined 50 per cent of his match fee.
Rishabh Pant form in Test matches in 2022.
He scored just 364 runs in 25 T20s in 2022 at an average of 21.41. Pant did some good work in ODIs, scoring 336 runs in 12 matches at an average of 37.33. The left-handed opening batsman was in poor form on the New Zealand tour, registering scores of 6, 11, 15, and 10. Rishabh requested rest from the ODIs against Bangladesh, but on his return, he performed well in the Tests, scoring 93 off 46 balls for the team.
If we talk about the numbers in the cricket tournament played with the red ball, in the year 2022 also the numbers were much better than their figures in limited overs. In seven Tests this year, Pant scored 680 runs at an average of 61.81 with two centuries.
The recent ODI series loss by 2-1 against Bangladesh bears testimony to the shortcomings of the Men in Blue in this format.
Team India fielded in the series with two wicketkeepers KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. While Kishan played just one game, Rahul was unable to emulate his exceptional performance from the series opener in the Games. The team selectors have been struggling a lot to find the right wicketkeeper.
The Indian team made an untimely exit from the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup. One of India’s primary shortcomings was the poor run of form of their wicket-keeper batsmen. Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik were India’s wicketkeeping options in the World Cup.
However, taking his luck in the match, Dinesh Karthik played three innings, in which he scored only 14 runs. Pant did not play well despite his excellent form, scoring only 9 runs in 2 matches.
Rishabh Pant’s average performance
Rishabh Pant’s form has been a real concern for the management. Pant is limited in the white ball format. Pant has scored 865 runs in ODIs at an average of 34.60. Since making his debut in 2018, Rishabh has managed to score just 1 century in the format. In the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, Pant failed to make an impact.
He scored a total of 25 runs in the two innings he played. He looked stiff and unsure of his shots. Rishabh has scored 987 runs in just 66 matches. He averages just 22.43 at an average strike rate of 126.
In ODI As A Good Option After Rishabh Pant injury
Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson is the veteran player of IPL and the captain of Rajasthan Royals in IPL. In a career spanning 138 matches in his playing years, he has amassed over 3,500 runs at a strike rate of over 135. Given his style of play, the team best suits him as an opener. Has opened the batting for India in four T20 Internationals with a good strike rate.
Samson averages 66 in his short ODI career. Earlier this year, he scored an unbeaten 86 in the ODI series against South Africa. His specialty is that he can hit the long ball in his own way.
Samson played an amazing inning of 77 runs in just 42 balls against Ireland in June 2022. He knows how to use his experienced schemes in the right way in the field, which is probably what Team India needs.
Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan can be a perfect replacement for Rishabh Pant, currently a left-handed opener and wicket-keeper in the ODI tournament, who also has the same style of play as a good wicket-keeper and an attacking batsman. The 24-year-old southpaw has over 1800 runs in IPL at a strike rate of over 140. Kishan has a strike rate of around 130 in T20Is.
In the five-match T20I series against South Africa earlier this year, Kishan scored a total of 206 runs with scores of over 150. In the ODI format, Kishan averages an impressive 53. Kishan scored runs in the third ODI against Bangladesh. 210 out of 131 deliveries. Completed his double century in 126 balls and Ishaan became the fastest run scorer in ODI history.
