AFG vs IRE: Afghanistan Announced Strong Squad for the One-Off Test Match against Ireland | Afghanistan vs Ireland 2024: Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announces a 16-member squad for the one-off test match against Ireland, which is scheduled to be played between February 28 to March 03, 2024. However, Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan is set to miss this one-off test match as he is recovering from back surgery.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will be leading the Afghanistan side in the one-off test match against Ireland whereas Rahmat Shah will be the vice-captain of the team. This test match between both teams will be played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Youngster Khalil Gurbaz was added to the squad as a replacement for Rashid Khan.
However, Afghanistan looks pretty young and inexperienced side, especially in the bowling department but they have played decent cricket in the past few months. However, Ireland will give good competition to Afghanistan in this one-off test match as they have a good batting and bowling line-up.
Afghanistan will get the advantage of the conditions at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium as spinners have better records at this venue than the Pacers, which will give Afghanistan an upper hand over Ireland. The Wicket-keeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz returns to the Afghanistan test side after recovering from injury.
Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai was added to the test squad after a long time however, he will add a lot more value to the Pace attack of Afghanistan in the one-off test match against Ireland. Overall, it is going to be an exciting match between Afghanistan and Ireland but this test match isn’t going to be the part of ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.
If we look at the past few records, Afghanistan didn’t perform well in test cricket as they lost the one-off test match against Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. Ireland hasn’t played test cricket in the past couple of months however, they have more quality players than Afghanistan and look more stronger on paper.
