1st ODI Preview

The Indian Cricket Team will take on England in the 1st ODI on Tuesday. The game will take place at Kennington Oval in London. This happens to be India’s first ODI after a very long time. The last ODI that the team played was against the West Indies. The team will be keen on expanding its new batting template to the 50-over format. The English team, on the other hand, is coming after blowing away the Netherlands in a 3-match series. Also, this happens to be the English team’s favorite format. Here is an in-depth preview:

Indian Team Preview before 1st ODI:

As the latest news arrives, it is said that Virat Kohli has suffered a groin strain and is likely to miss the 1st ODI. This will be a big setback for the Indian team. Also considering that England bat deep and if they get to set a target, it is bound to be beyond 300. So, the presence of Virat “Chase-Master” Kohli was a must. On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan will be back at the top with Rohit.

In the bowling department, Prasidh Krishna will be rooting to go. He was elite in the series against the West Indies. The Indian middle-order is likely to comprise of Rishabh at number 4, Surya at 5, and Hardik at 6. Mohammad Shami will also play the white-ball format after a very long time. Will Arshdeep get a chance? Is a matter to think about.

England Team Preview Before 1st ODI:

The English team is going mad after demolishing the Netherlands single-handedly. Jos Butler seems to be in the form of life. Hopefully, the burden of captaincy doesn’t take away his confidence. Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy will be back at the top. They will walk in and do what they do best! They will try to rock the bowlers’ world. The English bowlers will also be waiting to face the batting of India.

Richard Gleeson was unrealistically super-quick. His express pace troubled the Indian batters. Sam Curran is also back in the setup to give the left-arm pace. He can easily bat at number 7 for the team.

Indian Squad:

Rohit Sharma (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh

Indian Playing XI for 1st ODI:

Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna.

England Squad:

Jos Buttler (c & wk), Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Liam Livingstone, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Brydon Carse, Matthew Parkinson, Reece Topley, Craig Overton, Sam Curran, Philip Salt, Harry Brook

Pitch and Venue for the 1st ODI:

The first game will be played at the Kennington Oval in London. Shikhar Dhawan loves this ground, he has scored 3 hundred on this pitch. A decently high-scoring ground if rain doesn’t play a spoilsport. The pitch at times looks “a patta”. The average scores in both innings are around 320. The spinners generally don’t stand a chance. The ball will swing in the initial few overs if the conditions remain overcast and there is a breeze.
