In the 2025 IPL mega auction, Rajasthan Royals scripted history by roping in a 13-year-old superstar batter, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, for a price of INR 1.10 crore. The talented batter became the youngest-ever player to get sold in the IPL auction.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a left-handed batsman who also bowls slow left-arm orthodox. At just 12 years old, Vaibhav made history by debuting in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar, becoming the second-youngest cricketer to do so. In 2024, he shattered records with a 58-ball century in an Under-19 Test against Australia.

The immense talent and dedication displayed at such a young age have not only earned him accolades but also positioned him as a future star in Indian cricket. The Rajasthan-based franchise is known for nurturing the young stars who have great potential. Players like Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Dhruv Jurel have been a part of the RR setup in their early days.

In a recent conversation with South African legend AB de Villiers, Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson revealed the reason behind the decision to bring Vaibhav Suryavanshi on board.

“I have seen his highlights. All of the people in the Rajasthan decision-making group saw him bat at the U19 Test match vs Australia in Chennai, where he scored a hundred off 60-70 balls. The shots that he played there, it felt like, that’s something special, and we felt like we have to have those kinds of individuals in the side and see where they go.”

He stated

“But Rajasthan Royals have a history of doing this. They find out talents and make them champions. For example, there is a Yashasvi Jaiswal who came to RR as a youngster and now is a rockstar of the Indian team. There is Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel—they all fall under that line. I think RR loves that kind of thing—yes, we want to win the IPL, but we also want to make sure that we are giving enough champions to Indian cricket. It will be exciting to meet him.” he added.
