ENG vs PAK: The England tour of Pakistan’s second match went all in favour of the hosts as they ended their joint-longest winless streak in home conditions after a span of 1352 days. They have lost 11 home test matches in a row, while they broke the jinx in test 12.
The PCB management is saved from the scare of facing immense criticism for dropping the likes of legends like Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. The decision in turn proved to be a futuristic move and has also produced the desired results for them over the course of 2 years.
The legendary Babar Azam was replaced by Kamran Ghulam, who scored a hundred on his test debut to give Bangladesh the desired start they wanted. Having scored 366 runs in their first inning, the Pakistani spinners Sajid Khan and Noman Ali dismissed 7 and 3 batters, respectively, to limit England to 291.
Pakistan posted a huge total of 297 on a not-so-friendly batting track, where the opponents recently scored a huge 823 in the last match on the same track as Multan for a minor 144, as Noman Ali had the upper hand with 8 wickets while 2 wickets were picked by Sajid as well.
Let’s have a look at the records made in the second encounter of England vs. Pakistan
The team broke Pakistan’s joint-longest winless streak at home in Tests, after their streak between 1969 and 1975. The 152-run victory at Multan marked Pakistan skipper Shan Masood’s first test win as captain.
Noman Ali and Sajid Khan together picked all 20 wickets across the two innings, as this was the 7th instance in test cricket. The previous six such instances were shared by two bowlers back in 1972.
Noman Ali and Sajid Khan both became the third pair to have picked 7-wicket hauls in a match after the previous two pairs, McKay and Lindwall in 1956 and McGrath and Kasprowicz in 1997.
The two spinners also become the third bowling fair from the Pakistan side to have bowled out the opposition bowling without a change in spell. Also, Noman Ali, 38 years, 8 days, became the second oldest player to have picked an 8-wicket haul after Sri Lankan veteran Rangana Herath.
After Abdul Qadir’s 9-56, Noman Ali’s 8-46 turns the second-best bowling figures for Pakistan in tests. This was Pakistan’s first unchanged bowling pair to have bowled out the opposition unchanged.
