The Olympics have almost come to a nearing end, and India is yet short of medals, with only three of them in the bag, as Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh, and Swapnil Kusale all bagged terrific bronze medals in the shooting event. With their last medal hopes, India has entered Day 13 of the Paris Olympics.

Most of the buzz that remained in the Indian camp was for star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, as she stormed into the finals of the Olympic event of 50 kg freestyle wrestling, and this was one of the assured medals for India, though the gold contestant was unfortunately wiped off contention as she got disqualified with a weight of 50.1 kg. The star wrestler immediately announced his retirement after this controversial decision was made against her.

Next in the list of other near misses, India adds another name, Mirabai Chanu, alongside other players early on with the likes of Manu Bhaker, Lakshya Sen, and many such. Mirabai missed just by a whisker, as she scored a point less than the 3rd-placed lifter, who scored 200 a point more than Mirabai’s 199.

While India’s golfer Aditi Ashok missed on a near medal at Tokyo, being placed fourth, now the golfer, alongside Diksha Dagar, has started well on Day 1 of the event.

The India hockey team is playing the Spanish team for the bronze medal match; the brilliant run of the Indian team was restricted when they lost the tough-fought semi-final to Germany. The Spanish team though now leads them 1-0 with a penalty shot, while India have levelled the score before half time. Now they lead Spain with a scoreline of 2-1.

India’s most successful event in the Olympics was that of wrestling in the past; this time around as well, after the initial disqualification of Phogat that ended India’s hopes of their first gold or silver medal, another wrestler, Aman Sherawat, has now made his way into the semis with two clean sweeps over his opponents.

Last, for the day, India will find their best-ever field athlete as he eyes another medal after his gold at Tokyo. Any medal gives him the best-ever status, as he would be the most successful ever for the nation.
