PAK vs NZ: After the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, A Big question mark came over the captain of Pakistan National Cricket Team therefore Babar Azam stepped down as Skipper from all three formats but this wasn’t the end of the problem. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) still doing experiments to get the right captain for the Pakistan men’s cricket team ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 which will start in a couple of months.
A few months back, PCB announced a new skipper of the Pakistan National Team for all three formats. Shan Masood was named as their new captain for the test and ODI team whereas Shaheen Shah Afridi is their new skipper for the T20I team.
However, Shaheen Afridi and Shan Masood failed to give good performances after becoming the captain of Pakistan, Both haven’t won a single bilateral series against any good team so far. Pakistan lost a five-match T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year by 4-1.
Rizwan is also in the race to become the new T20I skipper:
Mohd. Rizwan has played exceptional cricket in the past few months, especially in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024. Multan Sultans won the PSL 2024 under the leadership of Mohd. Rizwan therefore, as per the news reports, the newly appointed selection committee is also thinking over Rizwan as well.
Babar Azam is expected to return as the new Captain:
As the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024 coming nearer, the tension for the Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) increases as they didn’t have their perfect skipper for the tournament. However, in response to it, PCB made a new selection committee to assign a new skipper for the Pakistan men’s T20I team.
Babar Azam is also in the race to become the new captain as he had a meeting with the newly appointed committee and PCB chairman. It is expected that Babar is the front-runner but it’s all up to him whether he will accept the offer or not. However, After Babar Azam, Mohd. Rizwan has the maximum chance to be the new skipper.
