IND vs SL: Making a late change to India’s squad for the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka on Sunday, 17th September 2023, Washington Sundar has been named as the replacement for Axar Patel.
The decision comes the before of the final match and Sundar has already joined the team in Colombo.
Axar Patel suffered a left quadriceps strain during India’s last Super Four game against Bangladesh on September 15 and will be unable to take part in the crucial final.
Despite suffering several setbacks during his innings in that match, Akshar scored 42 runs in 34 balls, which included three fours and two sixes.
Their valiant effort was not enough, as Bangladesh’s bowlers managed to win the game by six runs, ending their Asia Cup campaign on a high note.
Washington Sundar, who replaced Akshar, has an impressive record in ODIs, taking 16 wickets at an average of 27.18 and an economy rate of close to five.
Additionally, he has also made valuable contributions with the bat, scoring 233 runs in nine innings, which also includes a half-century against New Zealand.
Sundar is also part of India’s Asian Games squad and is expected to join the Asian Games camp after the conclusion of the Asia Cup finals.

Both the teams are going into the match with different forms as India suffered a last-over loss against Bangladesh while Sri Lanka pulled off a thrilling last-over win against Pakistan in the virtual semi-final.
