The 34-year-old has played for some of the best teams to be ever assembled and has done it at the top level. Here is what Mesut Ozil had to say as he decided to hang his boots and retire with immediate effect from the world of football, “It has been an amazing journey filled with unforgettable moments and emotions. I’ve had the privilege to be a professional football player for almost 17 years now and I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity. But in recent weeks and months, having also suffered some injuries, it’s become more and more clear that it’s time to leave the big stage of football.”

Mesut Ozil was currently playing for the Turkish top team, Istanbul Başakşehir F.K. He has been a part of some great teams over the years. He first played professional football in the lower ranks of Germany. His first professional appearance was for Schalke 04 and from then he went on to play for Werda Bremen. His performance in the German league caught the eye of the Spanish Giants Real Madrid and he was floated to be a part of one of the best clubs to ever exist.
Under the management of Jose Mourinho, Mesut was unstoppable. He had 3 great seasons for the Los Blancos. Ozil won La Liga with the team in 2011. He had the most assists in La Liga for 3 seasons straight. He later moved on to Arsenal in 2013. Till 2021 he flourished with the Gunners. They were once runners-up in the UEFA Europa League, he was also blessed to be the FA Cup Winner 4 times.
At Arsenal, he was regarded with the “GOAT” playmaker tag. He played alongside Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud, and many other renowned strikers. He parted ways with the club when Mikel Arteta was appointed in charge and Ozil had a difference of opinion with him.
Ozil moved to Fenerbache in the Netherlands and then switched to his current club. After a journey of 15 long years, Ozil has called it quits. The highlight of his career has to be winning the FIFA World Cup in 2014 with the German National team. This was the same team that beat the Brazilians 7-0 on their home turf.
