ATK Mohun Bagan, the top flight Indian club is just one draw away from securing its berth in the knockout stage of the AFC Cup. This comes just after ATK have beat Bengaluru and Maziya FC. With this, the club stands at top of its group. On the other hand, Bengaluru FC, the other Indian club has got one victory and one defeat. Both the Indian clubs are performing exceptionally well and one of them is strongly expected to move to the knockout stages. Here’s a look at how the games have panned out: –
ATK Mohun Bagan: –
The club from the eastern coast of India has so far done very well. Roy Krishna, their captain, and the world-class Fijian striker have been absolute beast. In their first group stage game, ATKMB was up against its Indian counterpart Bengaluru FC. They beat Bengaluru 2-0. In this game, Roy Krishna first struck on the 39th minute before Subhasish Bose slammed one in, in the 46th minute making it 2-0. With this victory, ATKMB’s campaign was set right on track. The next game for them was against Maziya FC. Here the defense looked a bit tacky. But the strikers again came in handy. Aisam Ibrahim from Maziya began the scoring in the 25th minute. At half time the score read 1-0, Maziya.
The second half of the game began and ATKMB found their rhythm back. Liston brought them back in the game with his equalizing strike.1-1, ATKMB. The game was then sealed by strikes from Roy Krishna and Manvir in the 63rd and 77th minute respectively. With this ATKMB secured two wins in two consecutive games.
Bengaluru FC: –
Bengaluru FC, the other Indian club, too has been playing well. Their backline at times has been indecisive but the midfield compensates for their lapses. Star striker Sunil Chettri too, at times, has looked off-color. But fresher faces like Jayesh Rane have made an impact. Bengaluru faced Nepal Army FC in the qualification rounds for the leagues. They ran through the Nepalese opposition by 5-0. In the first game of the league, they were up against the Eagles FC from the Maldives. They beat them by 1-0. Here, Jayesh Rane was the star for BFC. With his footwork he made the Maldivians looked helpless. IN their second league game they went down 2-0 to ATKMB as mentioned earlier.
Both the teams will now face Basundhara Kings FC in their last league game.
