Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024:Indian Athletes Shine at Asian Indoor Athletics Championships: The Indian competitors participated in the Tehran indoor continental championships, where they took home five medals. Discover the whole medal table, the results, and all Indian medal winners.
Six women and seven men from India participated in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024, which took place in Tehran, Iran, on February 17 and 19.
In the women’s 3000m, Ankita Dhyani took home a silver medal, giving India five medals total from the Tehran event. Four gold and one silver.
The Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 in Tehran, Iran, saw Gulveer Singh of India win the gold medal in the men’s 3000 meters on Monday.
Gulvir Singh led the field of 13 competitors with a time of 8 minutes, seven seconds, and 48 milliseconds (8:07.48) at the Aftab e Enghelab Sports Complex in Tehran.
Bronze medallist in the 10,000m at the Asian Games, Gulvir defeated Nursultan Keneshbekov of Kyrgyzstan (8:08.85) and Jalil Naseri of Iran (8:09.39) to take the top spot on the podium. Nursultan competed in the Olympic 5000-meter race in Tokyo.
Ankita Dhyani of India, meanwhile, finished second in the women’s 3000m race with a time of 9:26.22. In the eight women’s division, Yuma Yamamoto of Japan won the gold medal in 9:16.71, and Anyuska Kalil Kaizi of Kyrgyzstan took home the bronze with a time of 9:27.18.
Remarkably, Dhyani and Yamamoto had placed third in the women’s 5000m race at the Outdoor Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok the previous year. Dhyani took home the bronze, but the Japanese runner took first place.

India’s Baranika Elangovan placed fifth in the women’s pole vault competition in the Tehran event with a 3.80-meter clearance. With Li Ling (4.51 m) and Niu Chunge (4.41 m), the People’s Republic of China won gold and silver, while Mahsa Mirzatabibi of Iran took home bronze with a 4.10 m distance.
Mohammad Afsal, an Indian athlete who won silver in the Asian Games, finished the men’s 800m race in 1:55.16 in the six-person wooden spoon final. Placing on the podium were Ebrahim Alzofari of Kuwait (1:46.80), Sobhan Ahmadi of Iran (1:47.04), and Abubakar Haider Abdullah of Qatar (1:47.74).
Earlier in Tehran, Tajinderpal Singh Toor successfully defended his men’s shot put title while Harmilan Bains and Jyoti Yaraji became victorious in the women’s 1500m and 60m hurdles, respectively.
India placed third in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 medal standings with four golds and one silver. China took first place with a total of 15 medals, consisting of 8 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze. Kazakhstan came in second with 10 medals, including 4 golds, 2 silvers, and 4 bronzes.

This was also India’s second-best performance at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, taking into account the gold medal.
India’s greatest performance in the competition was in Doha in 2008, where competitors from the country took first place and won a total of 17 medals, including five gold, nine silver, and three bronze
