Chelsea FC has spent the most in the recently concluded January Football transfer window. But even after blowing up 400+ million pounds, the team is struggling to get the results in their favor. So, when the team has world-class players and is yet not able to click and win games, the reason then becomes the manager and his managerial skills. Graham Potter is the current Chelsea FC manager, and he is under immense scrutiny. Here is a look at the same:

Chelsea FC is currently at the lowest point since its inception. The club is struggling to convert the potential of the players into performance. They managed to win their first match after 7 games. Graham Potter Under Criticism:
Many Chelsea FC fans have openly criticized Graham Potter. Graham was earlier the coach of Brighton and Hove Albion, and he did exceptionally well with Brighton. Based on his resume, he was appointed as the manager of Chelsea FC in September 2022. Meanwhile, the club also witnessed a transfer of ownership.
Abrahamovic family has now transferred the club to an American business giant named Todd Boehly. Todd showed faith in Potter and the duo went on a spending spree in the January Transfer window. They even broke the Premier League transfer record fee for getting Enzo Fernandez to the club. Here is a list of players bought in the January Transfer window:
Player Name | From | For |
Mykhaylo Mudryk | Shakhtar Donetsk | 70 Million |
Enzo Fernandez | Benfica | 120.8 Million |
Malo Gusto | Lyon | 35 Million |
Noni Madueke | PSV Eindhoven | 15.5 Million |
Joao Felix | Athletico Madrid | 11 Million |
Benoit Badiashile | Monaca | 37 Million |
David Datro Fofana | Molde | 12 Million |
Graham Potter Criticised for Backing Havertz and Mount:
The Chelsea FC fans have an issue with Graham Potter consistently backing Kai Havertz and Mason Mount. They also feel that getting Aubameyang from FC Barcelona was not a very ideal deal to pull off as Aubameyang hasn’t been a true asset to the club. He has failed to make the impact that he made for Arsenal or Dortmund. There is word around that Joao Felix should be given more opportunities and even Mudryk should be tried.
To conclude, I’ll say that Graham Potter has been very firm about his stand to trust the process, and it is more than possible that his backing of his players pulls off an outstanding move. The team is currently at a mid-table position, but a consistent run can help them end in the top 5 at least.
