Gareth Southgate England’s long-time national coach ended his 8-year-long stint with the national side. England under Southgate played two consecutive finals of the Euros in 2020 and 2024, with their first-ever final on foreign soil coming in Euro 2024 at Germany.
England faced a tough domination from La Roja, as they went on to be crowned for the 4th time in the Euros. This time around, Spain’s wonder kids Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams rose to the occasion, as Spain took the lead immediately after half-time.
The famous win at the Euros, has upturned modern football, from Williams’ transfer to Yamal being a legend in the making, chances of Rodri denying the Ballon d’Or to Bellingham and last but not the least Southgate’s exit, all has kept the football fans in the buzz.
Gareth Southgate moved to England’s coaching unit in 2011 and was seen with the Under 21-side from 2013-16, where he found great glory. After, 2016 he joined the Three-Lions side and has managed the side for nearly a decade.
Southgate indicated that if England loses the Euros, he will be no longer continuing at the Three Lions camp. This was declared by the Englishman much before England began their campaign at the Euros.

Southgate’s times will be remembered by English fans as the best-ever decade in English football, as he gave England the success the team never got since the mid-1970s. Southgate’s first major tournament was played in the Russia World Cup in 2018, where he took England to the semis while losing to the dominating Croatians.
Other than his two major Euro finals, he also took England to the first-ever Nations League semi-final where they lost to the Netherlands.
Southgate said as a part of his long farewell speech
“As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.
But it’s time for change and for a new chapter. Sunday’s final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager.”
Southgate while announcing his departure and stepping down from his position as England manager, credited long-time staff mate and coach Steve Holland and has made some great claims of his immense contribution to the team’s success. Adding to this he has also talked about the quality and potential that the England youngsters possess and how can they be the team to provide England with the glory every Englishman dreams of.
