The Paralympic athletes from the nation with tri-colour nation have come to represent a contingent of 84 athletes across 12 different disciplines, which is three more than the number of disciplines they represented in the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020.

India has won a record 19 medals in the Tokyo Paralympics, which comprised 5 golds, 8 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals, as that marked India’s best outing since the 1960 events when the Paralympics were initiated.

Since the inaugural of the season, India has played in 12 editions of the Paralympic games and has emerged much more successful than the Olympic events, as they have 51 medals with the likes of 12 gold medals, 19 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals.


For the Olympic games, most of India’s success in the summer games has come in two major events, wrestling and men’s hockey; however, the Paralympic events have been the most successful across different events, especially athletics.

India stirred with a new record in the games, though it has not concluded yet, with a record of 21 medals surpassing their medal tally from the Tokyo Olympics. Now they have 3 gold medals, 8 silver medals, as well as 10 bronze medals in the Paris Paralympics, which is more than thrice of the total medals in the Olympics this time in Paris.

India’s contingent flagbearer, Avani Lekhara, won their first gold medal in the event of women’s 10 meter air rifle standing SH1. Following it, their next gold medal came with Nitesh Kumar in the men’s single badminton event, while Sumit Antil delivered India’s final gold as of now in the men’s javelin throw event.

India has won seven silver medals in events like Manish Narwal, Nishad Kumar, Yogesh Kathuniya, Murugesan, Suhas Yathiraj, Sharad Kumar, and lastly Ajeet Singh in men’s javelin throw, badminton singles, high jump, discus throw, as well as shooting. Indian Shot put athlete Sachin Khilari won the 8th Silver medal for India which was India’s 21st medal.

India’s bronze medal tally has 10 medals from different athletes like Mona Agarwal, Rubina Francis, Preethi Pal (2 medals), Manisha Ramadass, the mixed archery team, Nithya Sre Sivan, Deepthi Jeevanki, Thangavelu, and Sundar Singh Gujar.
