The audience is eagerly waiting for the upcoming Men’s Indian Premier League. On the other hand, to give more energy to the wait, the inauguration of the Women’s Premier League has been announced, and the first edition of the season will be played from March 4 to 26, 2023, in Mumbai. The WPL will have a total of 22 matches that will be played at Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. The host of the marquee tournament is Patil Stadium.
The Women’s Premier League Player Auction List has been released for a total of 409 cricketers to be auctioned on February 13, 2023, at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai. A total of 1525 players registered for the inaugural Women’s Premier League Player Auction and 409 players were trimmed from the final list.
Out of 409 players, 246 are Indian and 163 are foreign players, of which 8 are from associate countries. Total capped players 202, uncapped players 199 and 8 from associate countries.
All five teams have a maximum of 90 slots available, of which 30 are for foragne players.
INR 50 lakh is the highest reserve price, with 24 players opting to be slotted in the highest bracket. Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and India’s U-19 T20 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma are among the few Indians who have placed themselves in the highest bracket. As many as 13 overseas players have placed themselves under the reserve price of Rs 50 lakh, including Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone, Sophie Devine, and Deandra Dottin, to name a few.
In this tournament, there are 30 players on the auction list, with a base price of Rs 40 lakh.
