WI vs IND ODI Schedule: West Indies made a shocking revelation in the selection of star batsmen for ODIs against India and ODI Schedule: The West Indies cricket team has made an exciting decision by bringing back their star batsman, Shimron Hetmyer, for the upcoming ODI series against India, which will be held in their home country.
It’s been almost a year since Hetmyer last played for the Caribbean side, but his outstanding performance with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has earned him this opportunity. During the IPL season, he showed his batting brilliance, scoring an impressive total of 299 runs in just 13 innings.
If Hetmyer gets selected, it will mark his first match in West Indies colors after his appearance in a T20I against New Zealand in August of the previous year. Unfortunately, right before the talented 26-year-old was set to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in Australia, he faced a setback when he missed his departing flight from the Caribbean.
For the past two years, the left-handed batsman hasn’t been part of the West Indies ODI lineup, with his most recent appearance being in the 50-over contest against Australia in July 2021.
Excitingly, Shimron Hetmyer is not the only player making a comeback for the ODI series. The West Indies have also included pacer Oshane Thomas in the 15-player squad announced on Monday, along with injury returnees Jaden Seales, Yannick Kariya, and Gudakesh Moti.
The chief selector and West Indies legend, Desmond Haynes, is filled with optimism about the ODI series against India. He has full confidence in Hetmyer and Thomas, believing they will perform exceptionally well. Haynes mentioned,
"We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the group. Both have played at the international level before, with some success, and we believe they will fit well into the set-up. Oshane brings pace and is a potential wicket-taker with the new ball. Shimron’s style of batting will offer a lot, especially in the middle stage of the innings, and he is also a potential ‘finisher’."
With regular players Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder unavailable for the series, wicket-keeper batsman Shai Hope has once again been named the captain for the three matches.
The first ODI will kick off in Barbados on Thursday, and this series carries added significance for India, as they prepare for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup later this year.
The West Indies failed to qualify for this year’s 50-over World Cup after finishing outside the top two in the recent ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe.
Cricket fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the return of Hetmyer and Thomas, and the ODI series promises to be a thrilling and closely watched contest.
