Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, largely known during his playing days with Sachin Tendulkar, was considered one of the most flamboyant hitters of the era by many, like Sunil Gavaskar. He made several early exploits in his cricketing career, with one being a 664-run partnership alongside Indian master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. His career started high but ended early due to inconsistency and off-field controversies.

Recently, a video went viral in which he was seen having some problems with his speech and was in a disoriented state. In recent years, Vinod Kambli has faced numerous controversies alongside significant personal and health challenges. In times of his struggles, he has always been supported by friends from the cricket fraternity who continue to acknowledge his contributions to the sport.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has revealed that the likes of every member of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team alive have decided to come together to extend their support to Vinod Kambli, who is suffering from an ailment.

“The 1983 team is very conscious of the younger players. For me, they are like grandsons. If you see their age, some are like sons. We are all very concerned, particularly when fortunes desert them. I don’t like the word help. What the 83 team wants to do is take care of him. We want to take care of Vinod Kambli and help him get back on his feet. How we will do, we’ll see in the future. We want to take care of cricketers who are struggling when fortunes don’t smile on them.”

Kapil Dev, the captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, reached out to Vinod Kambli to discuss his health issues and assured him of his full support. Dev’s gesture highlights the camaraderie and solidarity among former teammates in times of need.

Vinod Kambli made a remarkable start to his international career, scoring two double centuries in his first seven Test matches. However, his international career was plagued by inconsistency and discipline issues, limiting him to just 17 Tests and 104 ODIs. The batter had great potential and flair but was unable to make his mark and sustain a long-lasting career at the international level, largely due to inconsistencies in performance and off-field issues.
