IND vs County XI: Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane sustained injuries ahead of the England test series.
IND vs County XI: Team India’s regular skipper Virat Kohli and his red-ball deputy Ajinkya Rahane have suffered injuries that have forced both the senior cricketers to take rest and not take part in ongoing India vs County Select XI three days Practice Match.
The BCCI has now confirmed that both the cricketers have sustained minor injuries and are currently resting.
The skipper, Virat Kohli had a stiff back, as stated by the statement while Ajinkya Rahane has a swelling on his upper left hamstring.
On medical advice, both the senior batsmen are kept away from the practice match against County Select XI.
“Captain Virat Kohli felt some stiffness in his back on late Monday evening and he has been advised rest from the three-day first-class warm-up game by the BCCI Medical Team,” read an official statement by the BCCI.
“Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has mild swelling around his left upper hamstring. This has been addressed by an injection. He is not available for the three-day first-class warm-up game. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him, and he is expected to fully recover well in time for the first Test against England starting from 4th August at Nottingham.”

IND vs County XI: Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane sustained injuries ahead of the England test series.
The statement further informed why Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar are playing with the opposition team in the Practice match.
The reason being, a couple of County players, who were picked to play against India, have been out due to injuries concerns or have contacted with the covid positive person.
“The ECB made a request to the Indian team management to let two players from the Indian contingent play for County Select XI after some of their players were deemed to be unavailable either due to injury or close contacts of a Covid-19 positive person. Accordingly, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan have been made available to play for their team.”
In the absence of Virat and Rahane, senior opening batsman and India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma is leading the team.
Besides, the two aforementioned, Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma are also given rest for the match.
In the ongoing practice match, India has scored 188 runs until now in the loss of four wickets. India lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma(9), Mayank Agarwal(28), Cheteshwar Pujara(21) and Hanuma Vihari(24).
KL Rahul is in fine touch as he is at unbeaten 76 from 111 balls while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (26* off 67) is partnering Rahul from another end.
