T20I: Glenn Maxwell and Rohit Sharma’s record equals century in ICC men’s T20I match: Glenn Maxwell scored his fifth T20I century in the second T20I against the West Indies at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
The all-rounder, who came in at No. 4 following the collapse of Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh, made his mark in suspicious fashion by top-edging a hook shot into an empty part of the ground.
David Warner’s wicket fell in the next over, leaving Australia in a delicate position, but Maxwell hit a powerful six off Akeal Hosein in the eighth over.
This proved to be the first of many big hits from the Australian as he hit two more sixes in the next two overs.
When Rovman Powell came, Maxwell hit four fours in his one over. He completed his half-century in just 25 balls, but it could not happen.
His century was completed in exactly 25 balls and Australia easily crossed the 200-run mark. Maxwell finished his carnage with two fours and a six off Andre Russell in the final over as Australia finished on 241/4, their fourth highest score in men’s T20Is.
With his fifth century in the game’s shortest format, Maxwell’s 120* tied Rohit Sharma for the most centuries in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in the men’s division. In men’s T20Is, it was also the fifth-highest individual score recorded by an Australian.
With Australia setting a tough target, the West Indies batsmen got off to a good start but were unable to make any progress. With the help of lower-order runs, the team again crossed the 200-run mark, but failed to get close to the target and ultimately lost by 34 runs.
