T20 World Cup 2024 second-round schedule, dates, and venues: As the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 comes to an end, we are moving on to the next chapter of the event, with the eight remaining teams battling it out for the four semifinal spots.
India (Group A), Australia (Group B), Afghanistan (Group C), West Indies (Group C) and South Africa (Group D) are the five teams that have qualified for the second round so far.
India, Australia, and Afghanistan will be in Group 1 in the following round of the T20 World Cup 2024, while South Africa and the West Indies will be in Group 2. All these teams have remained unbeaten in their respective groups and are in good shape ahead of the next round.
T20 World Cup 2024: Second Round Details
The second round will begin on June 19 in Antigua. The next day, unbeaten India and Afghanistan will face off in Barbados, which is expected to be a crucial encounter ahead of the knockout stages of the tournament.
This will also be the first occasion in this tournament when India will play a match in the Caribbean.
Afghanistan will look to make up for their close loss to Australia in last year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup when they take on India in St Vincent on June 22.
Two back-to-back matches against strong opponents can trouble most teams, but Rashid Khan’s side have shown an indomitable fighting spirit in the tournament so far.
There are more important matches lined up in the coming dates: Co-hosts West Indies take on South Africa in their final Group 2 encounter in Antigua on June 23.
The Proteas have always dominated the West Indies, but that changed last month when the men in maroon clean-sweeped the three-match T20I series between the two sides at home.
Another clash centred around the Men’s Cricket World Cup will take place in St Lucia, where finalists India take on eventual winners Australia on June 24.
This season of the T20 World Cup, Antigua, Barbados, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent will host all 12 games of this round.
