Australia Updated Squad for T20 World Cup 2024

Australia Updated Squad for T20 World Cup 2024: Cricket Australia added two new players but still there is no room for the star players like Steve Smith however no changes have been made in Australia’s 15-member squad whereas they were added as travelling reserves in the team. Australia has been in phenomenal form in the recent bilateral series and they are one of the strongest contenders to win the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short are the new players in the Australia Squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 however they are added as travelling reserves therefore they will give cover to the players who will get injured while playing in the tournament. Australian selector George Bailey revealed that there will be only one travelling reserve but now, we saw two new additions to the team ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Mitchell Marsh is going to lead the Australian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 whereas Pat Cummins who is the current Test and ODI cricket captain of the Australian team will not lead the side in this tournament.

Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, Australia won two ICC trophies in the year 2023, the ICC World Test Championship 2023 and the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. Pat Cummins has done a superb job as captain for Australia in Test and ODI cricket.

Jake Fraser-McGurk has been added as a travelling reserve in the Australian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 and most probably, he is the backup option for key players like Travis Head and David Warner. Jake has played exceptional cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for Delhi Capitals and he has been a terrific batter for the team in the tournament.

Jake Fraser-McGurk is known for his aggressive batting and he has a variety of shorts which help this youngster to dominate the bowlers in a game.

Why Mitchell Marsh Picked as Skipper over Pat Cummins:

Pat Cummins has done a fantastic job as a skipper in the test and ODIs but he hasn’t led the Australian team in a single T20I bilateral series. Mitchell Marsh is leading the Australian team in the last couple of T20I series and they won all of those series.

Australia played a three-match T20I series against New Zealand and West Indies and they won both the series by 3-0 and 2-1, respectively with a dominating performance. Despite having two ICC trophies, Pat Cummins will not lead the side in the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024 as he just wants to play as a bowler in this format and improve his game.

But, Mitchell Marsh hasn’t played any bilateral series consistently in the last few months and they will directly play the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 however other players like Travis Head, Pat Cummins, and Marcus Stoinis are in excellent form ahead of the tournament.
