Australian batting legend and one of the fab-4 cricketers of modern-day test cricket, Steve Smith, in a recent interview, shared his view over the shortest format of the game and his deep-down desire to represent his nation in an event like the Olympics.

It was earlier in the buzz that the Olympics committee included cricket as a new event in the summer games, which is to be initiated from the Los Angeles Olympics to be held in 2028. Teams like India and Australia will be the teams who can rely on ending with at least a medal under their belt.

Steven Smith was not picked for the T20 World Cup, which was held earlier this year in the United States; however, he is still positive about returning in the format. Smith was picked by the Washington Freedom in the second season of the MLC this year and was also handed the role of skipper.

He led from the front as Freedom’s highest run-getter, and with one of the most splendid knocks in the final of the MLC, he led his team to a dominating victory in the second season itself.

After a highly praised season in the MLC, Steven Smith, who was to everyone’s surprise not picked in the IPL for three long seasons, is likely to make a comeback. Smith recently signed a 3-year contract with the Sydney Sixers in the BBL.

This implies that Smith will be around international cricket in the shortest format until 2026–27, which makes him available up to a year before the Olympic events in 2028.

“I could still be playing T20 cricket in four years, so you never know,” he said. “It’s a format I can see myself playing probably for a lot longer than some of the others, especially with the franchise stuff around the world. I’ve signed on here for three years, so it’s only another year after that. It would be cool to be part of an Olympics.”

The fog remains unclear over Smith’s participation either as an opener in the upcoming test summer and also his likely return to franchise cricket; still, he is one of the finest in the hunt.
