SL vs AFG 2024: Sri Lanka Announces Squad for the Upcoming One-off Test Against Afghanistan | Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan Test 2024: Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are going to play the one-off test match at Singhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to start from February 02, 2024. Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) announced the 16-member strong squad for the one-off test match against Afghanistan.
Dhananjaya de Silva was named as the new captain of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team in this one-off test After Dasun Shanaka resigned from the captaincy in all three formats. All-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva has played decent cricket in the past few months however, his role will be very crucial in both the batting and bowling department.
There are a few experienced players added to the squad including Angelo Mathews, Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal. These players will strengthen the team and their experience will help Sri Lankan a lot against Afghanistan, who have played only eight test matches so far.
Angelo Mathews has played good cricket with bat in the past few months, which is why he has been added to the test side. However, Milan Ratnayake, Lahiru Udara and Chamika Gunasekara are three uncapped players, who got selected for the one-off test after performing well in domestic cricket.
Asitha Fernando and Kasun Rajith will be leading the Pace department of the Sri Lanka Team in this one-off test match against Afghanistan. However, Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis are the key spinners of the team, whose role will be very crucial on the spin-friendly wicket in Colombo.
However, The One-off test match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will not be the part of ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. As of now, Sri Lanka is at the bottom of the ICC WTC Points Table 2024 with a PCT of 0.00% as they have played two games and lost both of them.
