The South African Broadcasting Corporation, SABC, has picked a list of 10 greatest cricketers from the 21st century. According to their reports, these players have been picked by the votes from fans as well as many expert analysts of the game.
The elite list includes the likes of the greatest cricketers like Virat Kohli, who tops the list, while AB de Villiers follows him in the second position. The former is often considered one of the greatest of the game, and so is Mr. 360, as ABD is often referred to due to his ability to hit the ball to all corners of the ground during his playing days.
Next on the list lie names like the great James Anderson, who made his debut back in 2002 for England, as he departs as England’s greatest ever wicket-taker as he has record wickets in both Tests and ODIs for England. Anderson retired three months ago, after completing his quota of second most Test matches for England and also having picked 700 test wickets, emerging as the first pacer to do so.
Also, Sri Lankan legend Sangakara, who had the shortest of careers with so much success, is the second highest run-getter in international cricket, having played the least of matches for just 15 years. Steven Smith and Joe Root are also the cricketers who are picked on the list.
Indian legend MS Dhoni, winner of the T20 World Cup, CWC, as well as the Champions Trophy, had to be named among the greatest. Also, South African great Hashim Amla like Sangakara enjoyed premium records despite a short career placed alongside the greats on the list.
The only three bowlers who have found a spot here include James Anderson, Jasprit Bumrah, and Protea legend Dale Steyn. Dale Steyn is undoubtedly one of the greatest among pacers, and Bumrah has a record of making for emerging as a true match winner.
However, what has taken all by surprise are the likes of legendary players like Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and the Aussie veteran David Warner, who retired after a splendid international career across all three formats and has won all ICC tournaments. Also, Babar Azam, the Pakistani great, and the current ruling no. 1 have also not found a place in the list.
