Team India made history and won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, played in the USA and West Indies. They beat South Africa in the final and won their second World T20 title. This was the first ICC event under Rohit Sharma, and after that win, the Indian senior trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement. Initially, Virat and Rohit made the announcement, which was followed by Jadeja.
It has been confirmed that India will play the next edition in 2026, which will be played at home without their biggest match-winners. But it will also give the opportunity to the youngsters who are waiting in the wings. But with these three retiring from T20Is, questions have arisen about their future in the white-ball formats, as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is coming up in the next 8 months.
Jay Shah confirms Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Notably, the next ODI World Cup is still three years away, which might be too far for the trio with their growing age. But at least fans can see them at the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. As a result, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has made a big revelation. He talked about the inclusion of these three superstars in the coming ICC event in Pakistan.
Notably, Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja have only retired from T20Is, which means they will play ODIs and Tests for India, and they will also play in the IPL. And Jay Shah also confirmed that these three will be part of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. In a media interaction after the final in Barbados, Shah congratulated Team India, its players, and its management.
He also said that the next target is to win the World Test Championship and the Champions Trophy. He said, “The way this team is progressing, our target is to win the World Test Championship final and Champions Trophy. There will be a similar squad playing there. The seniors will be there.”
Going by his statement, it looks like these three will be playing all nine ODIs that India are set to play ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. India will face Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and England ahead of the coming ICC event in Pakistan.
