Rohit Sharma and his men suffered an eye-opening defeat in the second game. The third and final ODI match between India and Sri Lanka will be played on Wednesday (August 7) at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
It will be a historic moment if Sri Lanka are able to cross the line in the third game. They have not won a bilateral series against India at home since 1997. So the long wait of 27 years can end on Wednesday. The hosts have smartly used the conditions in their favour.
Despite missing some of their key pacers, Sri Lanka have forced India to rethink their plans ahead of the final game. With a 1-0 unassailable lead, Sri Lanka will come hard. So, Rohit Sharma and his men have a big job in their hands ahead of the third and final game.
IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma on verge of breaking Chris Gayle’s Sixes record in ODIs
The Indian batters have struggled in the ongoing series so far. Only Rohit Sharma have looked comfortable and scored runs freely. The Indian captain scored a 33-ball fifty in the first game and followed it up with a 29-ball fifty. He has scored 122 runs at an average of 61.50 and an excellent strike rate of 134.07.
He has taken a risk up front and forced the Sri Lankan bowlers to bowl with a defensive line, whereas the other Indian batters have let the Sri Lankan bowlers take control. It has cost collapse in both games. Rohit Sharma has already registered a few big records. He broke Eoin Morgan’s record for most sixes as ODI captain in the first game.
In the second game, he went past Sachin Tendulkar to register most 50+ scores as an Indian opener. But now, the Indian captain will eye yet another big record. Rohit Sharma currently sits in third place in the all-time six-hitters in ODI cricket. He is behind Shahid Afridi (351) and Chris Gayle (331).
Rohit has hit 330 sixes in 256 innings. He has already hit seven sixes in the first two games. If he can hit two more sixes in the final game, he will jump to second place on this list. Rohit already holds the record for most international sixes and most sixes in T20Is.
He will take the record for most ODI sixes as well. But more than this record, he will look to take the team to victory. India are on the verge of a series defeat as they have not lost a series in Sri Lanka in the last 27 years. Hence, we might see the Indian captain taking more responsibility to take them win.
