India’s test and ODI skipper, Rohit Sharma has now announced his retirement from T20Is and hence will only be seen in these two longer formats. The skipper will return to action with the red ball tour against Bangladesh, as he now engages in a practice season at Chepauk.
Having retired from the shortest format of the game, Rohit will now only feature in the remaining two formats for India. He has emerged as India’s best batter across formats and his form has peaked at age 37. The veteran scores a stunning hand being their highest run-getter in white ball cricket and also being the highest run scorer for India in the WTC.
India will remain on the quest for 5 more wins in the 10 matches they are to feature in, as that will lead them to yet another WTC final which will be the third consecutive entry into the finals.
Now, the Indian skipper has retired from T20s with 5 international T20 hundreds, backed with 31 hundreds in the longer white-ball format of ODIs. He also has scored 12 hundred in his short red ball career, as all have piled up to score 48 centuries.
The veteran batter is only 2 more hundreds away from becoming India’s 3rd player to have scored 50 international centuries after the greats Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Tendulkar in his splendorous career scored 100 tons, while Kohli now stands on 80* international tons, with 50 alone in the ODi format.

Also, Rohit who has 9 centuries for India in the WTC has the chance of emerging as India’s first-ever player to score 10-hundreds in the competition. For now, only three batters, Root, Labuschagne and Kane Williamson have got to this milestone with 16, 11 and 10 hundred respectively.
Sharma with 10 upcoming matches will have the chance to achieve this amazing feat, while Rohit in the Bangladesh series might look to achieve individual success alongside bringing glory to his team as a player as well as a captain.
