Former RCB skipper Faf du Plessis returns to the Delhi side after missing out on the game against another former franchise of his, the CSK. KL Rahul took the opening position, and then he was included in the middle order with the return of the Protea opener. Rajat Patidar, who has been an invincible skipper for RCB, winning at Eden Gardens, Chepauk and the Wankhede, lost the only home match of the season and would look to give some joy to the home crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The RCB skipper went on to win the toss and elected to bat first in their home ground, eyeing the nature of the track, which has a rich history of high-scoring games and the team batting first largely being the dominators. Challengers opener Virat Kohli came into bat alongside his new opening partner, Phil Salt.

Salt went according to his reputation, scoring quick runs against the in-form Mitchell Starc, as in his presence RCB were 53/0 after 3 overs in the powerplay, as Starc’s 2nd over went for 30 runs. The very next over, a fumble between the two batters, Phil Salt was sent back for 37 runs off just 17 balls, run out by wicket-keeper Kl Rahul. This changed the course of the game for DC.

What seemed a high-scoring game till then slowly transformed into a nightmare for the RCB batters. Eventually, Devdutt Padikkal continued with his poor form, while Virat Kohli was also dismissed in the very first over by youngster Vipraj Nigam. The RCB middle order collapsed miserably as Jitesh, Patidar and Livingstone failed to come up with a decent score.

It was only the Delhi Capitals bowlers who largely dominated until Tim David, the big finisher, took 36 runs in the last two overs bowled by captain Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar. RCB reached a total that looked good on such a track; they set a target of 164 for the Capitals.

Coming into bat, the Delhi batters too struggled early, as the former skipper lost his wicket early against his former opposition. Faf was immediately followed by his opening partner Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel, the impact player, also fell in no time. KL Rahul was demoted to the middle order and looked firm at one end, and alongside skipper Axar and later Stubbs, he went on to build a consolidating partnership for the Capitals.

KL Rahul‘s innings was a masterclass under these conditions, as despite his risk-free batting, he effortlessly scored a stunning match-winning 93*, striking nearly 175.47, which seemed outstanding considering the conditions at the Chinnaswamy today. Tristian Stubbs, too, showed great domination with his blistering knock that took Delhi to a convincing win, thus extending their undefeated streak.
