PAK vs SA: Australian legendary fast bowler Jason Gillespie, who was appointed the coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team just months ago, has resigned from the Test team. Reportedly, he communicated his decision to PCB on 12th December just hours ago before the team is to travel to South Africa for the two-match series.
Cricbuzz was reported by PCB of Gillespie’s resignation. Jason Gillespie’s exit has been largely under speculation ever since Tim Nielsen was not handed the renewed contract by the PCB, owing to the two men’s working relations.
Late on Thursday, Aaqib Javed was announced to have taken over as the red-ball interim coach; similarly, he was appointed as their white-ball interim coach after Gary Kirsten’s resignation as the white-ball coach.
Currently featuring in the ODI and T20I formats, the Pakistan team is already in South Africa, and Javed has already arrived in the nation and will be seen as the all-format coach for the side.
Under Jason Gillespie, Pakistan broke their losing streak in the Tests
Ever since Shan Masood was appointed the skipper of the Pakistan team, and even before him when Babar Azam was seen leading the Pakistan side, the subcontinent greats had a terrible record in the longest format of the game.
Pakistan kept losing games in the WTC, as they were also losing a continuous streak of test matches as well as series in their homeland. After a losing streak of 9 matches at home, Gillespie took over when Pakistan initially lost the home test series to Bangladesh but later came back strongly, dominating the 3-match test series against England.
Though Pakistan is officially knocked out of the race to the WTC, they will play their last Test series against South Africa under Aaqib Javed.
