ODI: Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has a positive attitude towards the Australia series: Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur stressed the importance of the series in a press conference ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia.
She informed us that the series is an important part of the preparations for the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, which will be held in India. Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her excitement and positivity about playing in Australia and called it an exciting experience.
She said, “Playing in Australia is always special. We all love playing cricket here. We practiced for two days and worked on our fitness. All the players are looking in good rhythm.”
Harmanpreet underlined the importance of the ODI format and called it very special for the Indian team, especially ahead of the World Cup.
She said, “We like the ODI format more than other formats. It is a format we always look forward to. Especially, the upcoming World Cup is in India, and Australia is a team that performs well everywhere. It is a great opportunity for us.”
The series against Australia is considered crucial to assess India’s strengths and weaknesses in order to prepare for the World Cup in home conditions.
“This series is very important for us. We are ready to win it. Whenever we play, our mindset is always to win. This time too, we want to do the same thing—enjoy cricket and perform well,” Kaur said.
India is currently ranked third in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 and have already sealed their place in the World Cup as the host nation. Harmanpreet also discussed the importance of trying out team combinations as part of World Cup preparations.
“Every match is important for us. We want to work on our combination and give more opportunities to players who have performed well. Also, giving opportunities to emerging new players is our priority,” she said.
“Players who can perform well in home conditions, we will pick them for the World Cup,” Kaur stressed.
India won their last ODI match against New Zealand 2-1 at home.
