Former Indian domestic player Sitanshu Kotak is all set to join the Indian side as their batting coach ahead of the five-match T20I series that India will host against England.

Sources from the Times of India and ESPNcricinfo have learned that the 52-year-old former Saurashtra skipper will be the specialized part of the Indian coaching unit, which they lacked till now.

Kotak retired from domestic cricket after a long career at age 41 in 2013. Since then, he has held a crucial role at the National Cricket Academy since 2019. As a batting coach at the NCA under VVS Laxman, he has given immense success to the players who toiled themselves during their stay in the NCA.

Kotak also served as the head coach on several of India A’s tours; his services have been relished by the Indian side as well; however, that was in the role of an assistant coach alongside the Indian team headed by the head coach, VVS Laxman.

Alongside Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, T Dilip, and Morne Morkel, Kotak will be the fifth assistant for the Indian side, which is led by Gautam Gambhir. Among these, only T. Dilip remains the only support staff since the period of Rahul Dravid.

After the BCCI conduct meeting, which was held in Mumbai last week, the BCCI took some tough calls on the Indian management as well as the Indian squad players. Following their disgusting form and disappointing losses, India has sought many evolving changes to their game strategy.

With the Champions Trophy in sight, Indians are considering putting in efforts as soon as possible. While India failed on their WTC final berth, they look to excel in the white-ball format. It is very clear from this that the meeting between Gambhir, Ajit Agarkar, and other BCCI stalwarts considered India’s batting flaws as the most significant topic for conversation.
