SRH vs RR Eliminator IPL 2026: The Indian Premier League 2026 playoffs are set to deliver another blockbuster night as Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, on May 27.
For both teams, there is no second chance anymore. One defeat will end the season, while victory will keep alive hopes of lifting the IPL 2026 trophy.
Interestingly, both sides enter the contest carrying contrasting momentum and emotional baggage. Rajasthan Royals barely held themselves together after a poor mid-season slide, while Sunrisers Hyderabad arrive knowing they missed a top-two finish by the smallest of margins.
The pressure could not be higher.
Rajasthan Royals Survive Turbulent Phase Before Playoffs
Around 10 days ago, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag publicly questioned his own team’s playoff credentials after their third straight defeat. “If we keep playing like this, we shouldn’t be in contention for the top four,” Parag had admitted honestly.
At that stage, RR looked completely out of rhythm. Their batting lacked consistency, the bowling struggled under pressure, and injuries further complicated matters.
However, the Royals managed to recover at the perfect moment. Crucial victories against the bottom-ranked teams helped them sneak into the playoffs and avoid a disastrous collapse.
Still, Rajasthan enter the Eliminator with history stacked against them. Since the IPL playoff system introduced the Eliminator format, only one team has gone on to win the title after playing this knockout game. Ironically, that team was Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Looking to Repeat 2016 Heroics
Sunrisers Hyderabad have openly embraced memories of their famous 2016 title-winning campaign, and fans are already calling “2026 the new 2016.”
Pat Cummins’ side have looked dangerous throughout the tournament, especially with the bat. However, their inconsistency in big moments cost them a direct entry into Qualifier 1.
Their shocking collapse for 86 against Gujarat Titans ultimately damaged their net run rate and pushed them into the Eliminator. Despite that setback, SRH remain one of the most explosive batting units in IPL 2026.
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have consistently provided aggressive starts, while Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy have added firepower in the middle order.
Most importantly, Hyderabad hold a psychological edge over Rajasthan Royals, having won six consecutive matches against them since 2022. That streak gives SRH a clear mental advantage heading into the knockout clash.
Mullanpur Pitch Expected to Produce Another Run Fest
The conditions in Mullanpur strongly suggest another high-scoring thriller.
Temperatures in North India continue to remain above 40 degrees Celsius even during the evening, making batting conditions ideal under lights.
Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach James Franklin confirmed that Pitch No. 4 will be used for the Eliminator. Notably, Punjab Kings scored 219 on the same surface recently, only for the total to be chased comfortably.
The venue has already witnessed multiple 200-plus totals this season. In fact, six out of eight innings at the ground have crossed the 200-run mark.
The average first-innings score at Mullanpur this year stands around 214, highlighting how batting-friendly the conditions have been.
However, statistics also show that spinners have enjoyed slightly better economy rates compared to pacers at this venue, meaning middle-over bowling could prove decisive.
Travis Head vs Jofra Archer Could Decide the Match
One of the biggest battles of the Eliminator will be between Travis Head and Jofra Archer. Head has attacked most bowling lineups fearlessly this season, but Archer has historically troubled the Australian opener with pace and short-ball tactics.
In T20 cricket, Head scores at a strike rate above 160 against Archer but has also been dismissed three times in just 33 deliveries. The England fast bowler is enjoying one of his best IPL seasons and remains Rajasthan’s biggest weapon with the new ball.
If Archer removes Head early, RR’s chances improve dramatically. However, if Head survives the powerplay, SRH could quickly take control of the match.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Fearless Batting Adds X-Factor
Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has emerged as Rajasthan Royals’ surprise weapon this season. The young batter already has a century against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in the tournament, making him a player SRH will desperately want to contain.
Pat Cummins bowled only four deliveries to him during that innings, but the SRH captain may personally take responsibility this time if the youngster starts aggressively.
Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top gives Rajasthan an explosive opening combination capable of matching SRH stroke for stroke.
Injury Concerns Continue for Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals are still sweating over the fitness of captain Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja. Assistant coach Dasun Shanaka admitted both players are carrying “a few niggles,” although the franchise remains hopeful they will be available.
Jadeja participated lightly during practice, bowling casually and facing gentle throwdowns later in the session. If Jadeja misses out, Rajasthan could bring leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi into the playing XI. They also have experienced pacer Sandeep Sharma available as an additional seam option.
Parag, meanwhile, remained mostly away from active training, but signs suggest the captain will push through the pain barrier for such an important match.
Nitish Kumar Reddy Becoming Key Player for SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach James Franklin reserved special praise for Nitish Kumar Reddy before the Eliminator. Franklin highlighted how Reddy has adapted to multiple roles this season after struggling previously.
The all-rounder has delivered impactful cameos lower down the order while also contributing with the ball in different phases. His versatility gives SRH tremendous balance heading into a pressure game.

Who Will Win Today’s SRH vs RR Eliminator?
On current form, Sunrisers Hyderabad appear slightly ahead going into the Eliminator. Their batting lineup looks deeper, more experienced, and more destructive under pressure conditions. The six-match winning streak against the Rajasthan Royals also strengthens their confidence significantly.
However, Rajasthan Royals possess dangerous match-winners capable of turning the game quickly, especially if Archer strikes early or Jaiswal delivers a powerplay blitz. The match is expected to be close, but SRH’s balanced bowling attack and superior recent record make them slight favorites.
