Your past actions are paid off some time or the other; this statement goes ideally with Hardik Pandya missing the opening match of IPL 2025. Hardik Pandya to miss the match against CSK in IPL 2025 due to repercussions from the previous season.
After the schedule of the upcoming IPL season was announced last Sunday, CSK and MI will start their campaign with a double-header match on the 23rd of March at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
This match will be the third match of the IPL edition, after the opening encounter between last time’s defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore, which will steal the show, thus gaining immense cheer from fans. The match will be followed by an encounter between runners-up SRH and Rajasthan Royals, which will be the first match of the double-header on the 23rd.
According to IPL’s Code of Conduct, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya was fined INR 30 lakhs due to maintaining a slow-over rate for the third time in the season. Since this incident occurred in the last game of the previous season, the skipper was banned from playing the next match, which turned out to be the first game of IPL 2025.

MI last won an IPL opening match against CSK at Chepauk back in 2012
Ever since 2012, MI and CSK have faced each other multiple times over a decade, only leaving out the 2016 and 2017 editions, which included the ban of the Chennai Super Kings.
Back in 2012, when Harbhajan Singh was the skipper of the Mumbai Indians and he led them to a terrific knockout stage alongside winning the Champions League, this was the last edition MI won an opening match against CSK at Chepauk.
Under Rohit Sharma, who captained MI for a decade while winning 5 IPL trophies, he could never lead MI to a win at Chennai in the first match of the IPL, and even CSK’s record against any opposition at this venue seems inevitable, except for MI.
