IPL 2025: Chennai Super Kings Tentative Retain/Released Players  List Ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Tata IPL has reached its final stage, but before this, some teams were in bad shape in the first stage due to which they were out of the game.

Five-time IPL trophy winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended their IPL 2024 league stage campaign with a defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), with the defending champions finishing out of the top four due to a slightly lower net run rate (NRR) Got out.

After winning the title last season and making a record 12 playoff appearances in IPL history, Chennai Super Kings, partly hit by injuries, have failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third time in their 15 matches in the IPL.

Ahead of the 2024 IPL auction, CSK had retained key members of the squad and performed well in the auction, but lost key player Devon Conway before the season started and also missed several players due to injury during the campaign.

CSK’s bowling attack had become weak after the injuries to Mathisha Pathirana and Deepak Chahar. Also, Mahendra Singh Dhoni handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad just a day before the season-opened, hinting that 2024 could be his final season.

Despite assuming the captaincy, Gaikwad’s batting form was good, but some of his decisions as captain were criticized. However, CSK will be supporting him as their captain for the next few seasons as Dhoni may have played his last game in the league.

IPL 2025: Mahendra Singh Dhoni will probably play in the 2025 Indian Premier League, although in a different lead.

MS DHONI

CSK’s MS Dhoni has once again created a mystery around himself and his decision to retire from all forms of cricket. Although Dhoni himself has not announced anything yet, fans and experts fear that this will be his last swan-song in the IPL and he will no longer be seen in the same capacity for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Cricket experts are engaged in similar discussions whether this is MS Dhoni’s last swan song or whether he will make a comeback in IPL 2025.

Former Australian cricketer and famous commentator, Matthew Hayden believes that the universe has seen MS Dhoni in the yellow jersey for the last time as a player and he will no longer be in the team in the same capacity. However, he said that Dhoni can be included in the team as a mentor.

MS Dhoni's last IPL game was probably against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The wicketkeeper batsman scored 25 runs in 13 balls in the game and gave his team some hope, but his team fell 27 runs short of the target.

“I think this is it. I do believe that this will be the last time that Dhoni will play. Certainly, won’t be the last time that we see Dhoni. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t mentor or be a part of the family of CSK in an official capacity,” said Hayden on Star Sports Cricket Live.

“I suppose the thing is when you come to the end of your career, whether it is the last part of his career or not, what you don’t want to see is diminishing returns as an athlete. Firstly, as a leader, he is The Thala of the Chennai Super Kings. This is telling me that nothing here is about becoming anything else other than first place,” he added.

“He’s desperately using his brains, all of that cricket knowledge. And of course, the power is there and that’s always been MS Dhoni. He’s always hit balls at this stage of an innings. At the front, you can understand how players can hit it. But at the back, it’s really hard to hit balls,” Hayden added.
